Are Small Ships the Future of Cruise Travel?

In the last ten to twenty years, the luxury cruise industry has changed dramatically. Emilio Freeman explores the benefits of smaller ships, providing insight into the potential effects on vacation at sea.

Emilio R. Freeman is a travel industry executive with extensive experience in global destination management, marketing, sales, finance and operations in the cruise industry. He was the Director of Brand Operations & Destination Delivery at Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (February 2013 – June 2014), being in charge of all aspects of shore excursion operations as well as onboard operations for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity including guest satisfaction, onboard revenue generation, staffing, training and development. Prior to this, Mr. Freeman worked as a consultant at Azamara Club Cruises from January 2012 to February 2013, during which time he was responsible for all shore excursion operations. He also provided guidance in the development of new night touring programming for an upmarket, boutique cruise line (Azamara Club Cruises). Moreover, Emilio R. Freeman was the Senior Vice President (2004-2010) at ResidenSea-The world, where he responsible for all shore-based activities including port & tour operations and governmental relationships of the world’s only residential community at sea called “The World”. In addition to this, he also served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee (2008-2010) and as a Member of the Executive Committee (2010) for the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. He is currently President at ERFreeman & Associates.
