China Invests in Future Growth During a Period of Change

Dali Yang discusses how the Chinese economy is responding to new growth drivers and urbanization. He shares that China is securing a strong future economy by encouraging education and research and development, and liberalizing its service sector.

A leading authority on Chinese politics and political economics, Dali L. Yang is the William Claude Reavis Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago and the founding Faculty Director of the University Of Chicago Center in Beijing, a university-wide initiative to promote collaboration and exchange between UChicago scholars and students and their Chinese counterparts. He also previously served as Director of the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore and in various other positions of academic leadership. Prof. Yang is the author of numerous books and articles on China’s development and his current research interests include Chinese governance, political economy, Chinese demography, elite politics, as well as risk regulation/governance in China. He is a faculty Board member of the Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago, a member of the Committee of 100 and other civic organizations, and was previously a member of the China Telecom Strategy Advisory Committee.
