Rethinking Healthcare to Transform Neighborhoods and Reduce Rising Costs

City Health Works’ Manmeet Kaur examines how “5% of the population in most neighborhoods account for 50% of the healthcare spend.” Kaur discusses how our current reactive health system can increase the cost of caring for low income families and how community healthcare workers could be part of the national priority to reduce healthcare spending.

Manmeet Kaur is Executive Director and Founder of City Health Works, which works to create a business case for the integration of local health coaches into the U.S. health system. Previously, she was an advisor to the One Million Community Health Worker Campaign and worked on related initiatives in South Africa, India, and New York City. During her time abroad, Kaur saw the potential for reverse innovation from lower cost health systems applied to the U.S. Kaur’s work has been featured in NPR, the New York Daily News, and NEJM. She earned an MBA from Columbia and a BA from Barnard College and was selected as a Third Millennium Human Rights Fellow. Kaur is a GLG Social Impact Fellow.
